Total joint replacement training course in Zimbabwe a success

Professor Chris Lavy from Oxford University Global Surgery Group and Professor Hemant Pandit from the University of Leeds recently led a two-day total joint replacement training course in Harare, Zimbabwe, in partnership with Zimbabwe Orthopaedic Association.

The course, held from 9-10 March 2022, was attended by delegates from Zimbabwe, Malawi and Zambia.

Professor Hemant PanditProfessor Pandit (pictured left), who is an Honorary Departmental Researcher at the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences, University of Oxford, taught online along with local faculty in Zimbabwe.

He said: ‘Running a hybrid course is always challenging! The weblink worked well, the audience participated brilliantly, and it was so nice to see local faculty taking on mentoring roles which clearly is the way forward for cascading knowledge and skills transfer. Well done to everyone!’

Two of our Oxford University Global Surgery Group (OUGSG) members, Professor Chris Lavy and Dr Shobhana Nagraj, completed the OX5 Run on Sunday 20 March 2022 for the Children’s Centre at the John Radcliffe Hospital.
